Last Meal She Shared”
Maria never imagined she’d have to choose which of her children would eat dinner. A few years ago, she lived a modest but stable life, working part-time at a school cafeteria.

In a small village in Kenya, 11-year-old Anita used to study by candlelight. Her family couldn’t afford electricity, and every evening, once her chores were done, she would light a single candle and hunch over her textbooks.

Every morning at 5 AM, Maria and her 10-year-old daughter Lila would set out with yellow jerry cans to fetch water from a stream over 3 kilometers away. The path was dangerous, the water was dirty, and the walk meant Lila often missed school. “But we had no other choice.”

Fatou was 22, living in a rural village in Senegal, with three children and no income. Her husband had disappeared months ago, and she was left with no savings, no education, and no choices.

A women’s charity offered her a £50 microloan and free training to learn how to make and sell handmade jewelry. She started with ten bracelets and a table at the local market.
